Desire, Hostility, Delusion

If I didn’t have to go back and get screengrabs from this movie, even I would’ve thought that I simply made Desire, Hostility, Delusion up. This one is pretty obscure. Mine is the singular review on Letterboxd and there’s no movie poster for it on IMDb and the cast list is incomplete. The IMDb summary is also vague. But Desire, Hostility, Delusion is a real movie. I watched it on Tubi knockoff, Fawesome. But it seems to be gone from there too. Don’t worry, you missed absolutely nothing. Desire, Hostility, Delusion is incompetent on every level.

Lesbian couple Gabby and Tess are at an impasse. Gabby, a career-driven lawyer wants them to have a child. Tess does not. Elsewhere, secondary lesbian couple Toni and Stacey are having their own parenthood struggles as the couple keeps miscarrying. Obviously, the next course of action is obvious. Gabby should rape Tess with a turkey baster full of semen to get her pregnant. Which, because of the magic of movies obviously works and contraception, plan B or abortion aren’t really mentioned as options.

Did I mention that these plots also involve two different voice-overs? The first is some sort of self-help psychology about people in your life who are a destructive flame or something. There’s also voiceover from Barack Obama where he defines marriage in a way that doesn’t include same-sex unions. It’s this second one I find more baffling. Is it supposed to be making some kind of point? Would Gabby not have raped her girlfriend if women could get married? Or would Gabby have been allowed in the delivery room of her victim had they been married? I assume given this voiceover that the movie is saying something about marriage rights. But given the content of the story, I don’t really know what that means.

Thanks, Obama

So, the story is an over-dramatic mess that the movie isn’t skilled enough to pull off. And there’s two voiceovers from men in this story about lesbians. And that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. Truly no part of Desire, Hostility, Delusion works. Everything here is bad. The editing? Awful. The sound? Even when it’s not an out of place Obama voiceover it’s extremely bad too. The visuals? I watched this movie on a legal, if free website. And the whole movie had a blurry, low-quality look to it, which I assume is just how the movie looks. The acting? Also bad, though I’m not sure there’s an actor alive who could sell some of this dialogue.

Desire, Hostility, Delusion is a movie that deals with some really heavy subject matter. And it does so with no skill or subtly or quality. Every single aspect of this movie is abjectly bad. It almost defies description beyond simply “this doesn’t work.” I sort of wish I had just imagined this movie. It adds absolutely nothing to the WLW movie canon.
