Inescapable

Inescapable is mostly sex. There’s a thin plot holding it together but it’s mostly sex.

Inescapable is about four lesbians. Jessie and Chloe are exes who’ve remained friends. They are staying at a beach house along with Jessie’s girlfriend, Susan and Chloe’s girlfriend, Beth. However, Jessie and Chloe have unresolved history and Susan and Beth have immediate chemistry; so much chemistry that an initially platonic dish washing scenes ends with Susan and Beth fucking in the kitchen while Jessie and Chloe are out. After that initial scene, Susan and Beth basically just continue to have a lot of sex whenever Jessie and Chloe are out and then feel bad about it because they’re both in relationships.

The main positive of this movie is the sex scenes are well-done. Inescapable’s director is a female so she does actually knows how female pleasure works for the most part. There is one supposedly sexy shower scene which was ruined for me though. One of the participants is clothed during it and I find the idea of making out with someone while wearing wet jeans thoroughly unsexy. On the whole though, if you’re looking for films with lesbian sex, this film does deliver in terms of quantity and quality. However, the quality comment only extends to the sex scenes. Everything else in this movie is fairly poor.

With regards to the characters, the movie sacrificed time to develop any of these women as engaging individuals to instead show sex scenes. What’s left is four flat characters who I can hardly tell apart.

In terms of the love story, I don’t buy it. Clearly these women have good sexual chemistry, fine. But their relationship is so abrupt and so passionate and we’re not given a reason for that. As a viewer, you really just have to be on board with this couple because the movie tells you to be; they don’t really do anything to deserve us being invested in them.

If anything, the brazenness of Susan and Beth’s sudden affair makes me root against them. Their sexual exploits always run a pretty major risk of getting caught including fooling around under the dinner table with their partners are in the room. It’s all a little too shameless for me to support.

When the love confession comes, I didn’t buy it. These women have know each other for just a few days and far from developing a deep, emotional or mental connection, mostly they just had sex. Ultimately, their relationship lacked any sort of depth so not only did I not believe these characters to be in love, I also didn’t really care.

If you want to see lesbian sex scenes directed by an actual lesbian then this movie exists. However, Inescapable has no merit as a movie on any other front. I just don’t care about any of the characters and without that, I found the constant sex scenes to get rather tiresome.
