Like any subgenre, there are good films and bad ones. The Gymnast isn’t really either. It’s a pretty middling movie overall. 6.0/10

Saying that Summer Lover is like a bad soap opera would be an insult to bad soap operas. 2.6/10
A Perfect Ending is a well-performed drama with enough intelligence and talent to portray topics of WLW sexuality and death without falling into one of the many pitfalls both those plots have. 7.6/10
I just don’t understand why this movie about teenage girls lacked so much insight into their subject matter and didn’t seem to do anything to solve it such as talking to real life teenage girls. 3.9/10
Despite being almost two and a half hours, Beyond the Hills skips the romance aspect of a WLW movie and jumps right to the tragedy. 8.7/10
It’s in the Water isn’t good. However, it’s also not bad enough for me to get particularly passionate about. It’s just a mild failure. 4.4/10
I’m pretty sure Female Perversions thinks it’s smart. It thinks it’s saying something and making a point. It is not. It’s neither smart nor sexy nor memorable. 4.7/10
lush walks a line between grounding this movie in its country of origin while also showing the universality of many things the main character experiences. 6.9/10
Everything in this movie works. Go watch Pariah. It’s a phenomenal and important movie. 9.1/10
Imperfect as it is, Manji is ultimately engaging to watch. So much so that it’s one of very few films I wish were longer. 6.5/10
