Sword of Trust really works because of how well everyone understands the universe and the movie that they’re in. This feels like more of a collaboration between filmmaker and actors than most scripted films. 6.8/10
Two Mothers for Zachary is a well-meaning but undoubtedly dated TV movie. Its approach to gay rights is primarily to show gay oppression without victory. 6.4/10
80 Days is such a sweet movie. The two lead characters are so charming to watch together. I could’ve easily watched 800 days of them. 8.1/10
Queer people deserve this sort of wish fulfillment, cliche romantic media. More than that, they deserve it to be good. The Substitute is here to be an entry into that all too rare club of quality queer wish fulfillment romances. 6.9/10
Girl With Hyacinths is commonly described as “lesbian Citizen Kane.” And I totally agree with that assessment. This movie is lesbian Citizen Kane! 9.1/10
More than 25 years after its release, Fire still holds up as a scathing critique and powerful piece of art. Director Deepta Mehta pulls no punches and takes no prisoners with Fire. 7.4/10
The subtly of And Breathe Normally is impressive. There’s nuance, emotion and kindness in this cold and mundane universe. 6.8/10
More than being an involved story, To Kill the Beast is a celebration of what can be accomplished with the moving image. It’s all vibes all the time. 6.9/10
Love/Juice has one of the most fascinating, fucked up and tragic relationship dynamics I’ve seen in a WLW film. I’m blown away that this tiny little indie pulled off such dramatic heights. 7.4/10
