Gunpowder Heart is a heavy, depressing sit. As it should be. Camila Urrutia successfully channelled her rage, sadness and desire for change into her art. 7.5/10

Despite some very dated attitudes towards gender and sexuality, I’m happy to welcome Invincible Asia to the canon of queer cinematic badasses. I love queer villains and I love powerful queer characters. Asia is both. 6.7/10
As an aspiring filmmaker myself, this is a great example of a well-done script with great characters that can be shot on a smaller budget. The outcome is a dark, moving and funny portrait of a complex relationship. 6.8/10
Lianna is a progressive, sensitive and spectacular character study. 8.9/10
Bodies Bodies Bodies scared me less than I expected, but made me laugh more. The film takes 20-something messiness and ramps it up so high that it has a body count. 7.7/10

Rara is a sweet story with an injection of tragedy stemming from gay inequality. 7.6/10
In addition to a great antagonist, Shady is successful at cultivating an air of mounting dread and helplessness. 6.5/10
This is one of the purest examples of a thrilling movie I’ve seen in the WLW genre. The Novice is edge of your seat, heart racing viewing. 8.6/10
