I didn’t realize how little representation there is for messy, mean sapphic women until I watched Girls Like Magic. Mean queers to the front, this movie is for you. 6.6/10

I can certainly see how this trendy, romantic story might appeal to people. But in this case, I guess I’m not people, because I personally didn’t enjoy what The Venus Effect presented me. 5.2/10
I can’t believe this movie exists. The style of it assures you it is indeed a film from 1969. But the content of its story is staggeringly progressive for its time. 6.5/10
This is a Lifetime TV movie. And the wish fulfillment aspect is uneven. Trying to fit cathartic, queer wish fulfillment into a Lifetime TV movie-shaped box further exacerbates some of the issues with both aspects. 5.5/10
For a film to rate below a 3/10 for me, I need to think to myself, “wow, I hate this!” at least once while watching. I had that thought dozens of times watching 69 + 1.

Blue Jean is great at showing at once how far the LGBTQ* community has come and how much work still must be done to reach equality. All of this is done with a tight, focused narrative, assured directing and solid performances. 7.9/10
This is a low budget film but it’s really high on creativity, realism and focused commentary. Very few films with such limited means achieve those three things. 5.6/10
It makes it all the stranger that in a film so lacking in overall quality that there is a relationship that features such extraordinary chemistry from the two actresses. Sadly, the scenes between Zoe and Shelby don’t make up enough of the movie to drag Kiss Me out of being a pretty bad movie. 3.5/10
Anaïs is an engaging portrait of a very messy woman with very messy relationships. While its writing isn’t as strong as The Worst Person in the World, the visuals and aesthetics of the film make it a more than pleasant sit. 6.7/10
