The Experience spends most of its run time as a troubled teen narrative complete with lesbian romance and a staggeringly blatant blue filter. It takes a turn into science fiction at the end. This is an interesting choice that makes the movie more memorable. It doesn’t make it better, though. 3.4/10

While I didn’t see the film in its original, unfiltered form, I also don’t think that would largely change my thoughts on the film. I doubt that missing ten minutes or presence of some shots of nipples would somehow transform the hour and 57 minutes of film I did see. 2.0/10

A.E.S.O.P. has some interesting sci-fi and philosophical concepts it explores. But even beyond budget and technical limitations, the film finds ways to undercut these core concepts. This leads to an ending that personally pissed me off. 3.5/10

Nina Wu is a beautifully shot, pointedly angry and upsetting film with an important thing to say. It’s often an unpleasant sit, and rightfully so. My main critique is that I wish for a little more focus. 6.9/10

There are some universal themes in Red Cow, of course. But even these themes are always explored through a lens of cultural specificity. This is Red Cow’s triumph. 6.6/10

Jules of Light and Dark has much in common with its protagonist. Both are vague, aimless and don’t evoke any strong emotion in me as a viewer. 3.6/10

Hallmark movies can feel like a warm mug of cocoa. City of Trees is more like a glass of water you left on your bedside table in December over night for a week. 3.8/10

Road of Bygones found a really interesting hook that makes itself stand out from other, similar indie movies. It’s such a good hook that I think the film should’ve pivoted to that being the entire premise. 5.9/10

The amount of poly films I’ve seen probably lessens my regard for this specific one. I’ve seen the beats of this story many times before. And Before We Grow Old’s take on those beats is a particularly boring one. 4.8/10
